The 2021 Honda Trail 125 Is Finally Coming to the U.S.

We're fans of Honda's miniMOTO series of small motorcycles, which includes the lovable Grom and the retro Super Cub 125 and Monkey. For 2021, Honda is expanding the American miniMOTO lineup with something fantastic—a revival of the beloved CT Trail. It's the first CT-series bike Honda has sold here since the Eighties, and we're so glad to see the nameplate back.

Like the original Honda Trail of the Sixties, the 2021 CT125 Trail is based on the Super Cub. Honda engineers strengthened that bike's step-through frame and gave its 125-cc air-cooled single-cylinder a high-mount intake to avoid eating dust and twigs, and an upswept exhaust system to improve low- and mid-range power. A slightly larger fuel tank (1.4 gallons vs. 1 gallon) provides better range over the Super Cub, while an engine skid plate adds some off-road protection. The four-speed semiautomatic transmission and centrifugal clutch remain unchanged from the Super Cub, though there is a larger rear sprocket for better low-speed power.

Obviously, the new Trail is not a hardcore off-roader, but its extended wheelbase and additional ground clearance, plus 17-inch wheels and slightly more aggressive tires should make the Trail at home on dirt paths as well as in the city. The 259-lb bike gets disc brakes front and rear, with ABS standard.

Honda will start selling the new Trail 125 in the U.S. in November, with a starting price of $3899, just $150 more than the Super Cub. The only color available is red. We can't wait to see these things on the streets and in the woods.
