2022 Hyundai Kona Will Get Styling Updates, N-Line Model

  • Hyundai has shown an updated version of the Kona crossover.
  • It has updated styling inside and out and a new N-Line model, both of which should reach the U.S. market.
  • We expect to see this tweaked Kona on our shores next year as a 2022 model.

A facelifted version of the Hyundai Kona should be coming to the U.S. soon, if these photos of the Europe-market Kona are any indication. We expect the 2022 Kona to incorporate similar changes when it arrives on our shores, including updated styling inside and out and a new N-Line model with a bit of extra sporting character and a horsepower boost.

The N-Line, pictured above in red, backs up its slightly more aggressive looks with a more powerful engine, a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four with 195 horsepower. That's 20 hp more than the current U.S.-market Kona with this engine, which is currently offered on Limited and Ultimate trims. The standard model, shown here in blue, is likely to continue with its naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four with 147 horsepower. We've also spotted a full-bore Kona N testing, but we might have to wait a bit longer for that performance model to arrive.

The interior has been redone as well and features a new dash layout available with a digital gauge cluster and an optional 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen that's larger than before. The base screen also grows from 7.0 to 8.0 inches, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. Hyundai also says there's more rear legroom and cargo space than before, and rear-seat heating and USB ports are newly available.

We expect to hear more U.S.-specific information about the 2022 Hyundai Kona sometime late this year or early next year. Pricing should stay close to the current 2021 model, which ranges from $21,540 to $29,190.
