Mustang Mach 1 Orders Open at Starting Price of $52,915

You can now reserve your 480-hp 5.0-liter V-8-equipped Mach 1, which comes standard with a manual transmission. Deliveries are slated for next spring.

Although news of the Ford Mustang GT350 being discontinued is still fresh in our minds, Ford is helping lessen the pain of that loss: Mustang Mach 1 production is getting closer, and now it can be preordered. This Bullitt/GT350 cross will start at $52,915, which means the Mach 1 costs around $5000 more than the Bullitt with which it shares Ford's 5.0-liter V-8 engine.

That engine makes 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, the same as the Bullitt, but it does gain several bits from the Shelby GT350, including its intake manifold, oil-filter adapter, and engine oil cooler. The Mach 1 will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, with a 10-speed automatic transmission optional.

The limited-edition Mach 1 is more track-ready than the Bullitt, thanks to other performance-oriented parts that it gains from the GT350 and GT500. The Mach 1 is equipped with the GT350's front and rear subframe with stiffer bushings, as well as the rear-axle cooling system, rear toe link, and diffuser from the GT500. There's also an optional Handling package, which is only available with the six-speed manual.

Cosmetically speaking, an optional appearance package includes black side and hood stripes with reflective red, white, or orange accent stripes. The car will be available in Fighter Jet Gray—exclusive to the Mach 1, Ford says—as well as seven other shades: silver, black, white, blue, and red, plus Twister Orange and Grabber Yellow.

We’ll miss the high-revving, back-to-back 10Best-winning Shelby GT350, but the Mach 1 looks like it’ll fill at least some of the gap left by the departure of the GT350, which means this car's arrival in dealerships next spring is something to look forward to.
