2021 BMW M8 Coupe and Convertible Not Coming to U.S

The 2021 M8 Gran Coupe is still available, as is an optional Competition package, but pandemic-related supply issues trim the U.S. M8 lineup for now.

  • The BMW M8 coupe and convertible are going away for model year 2021, and it's due to supply issues brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The M8 Gran Coupe will stick around, but the stand-alone Competition model is kaput and will now be an optional package.
  • The less powerful M850i coupe and convertible will still be available for 2021, and the departure of the M8s may not be permanent.

If you weren’t already bummed about Ford killing the Mustang Shelby GT350, another powerful set of vehicles will be saying goodbye, at least for now, as the BMW M8 lineup gets a bit of a trim for 2021. Today BMW announced that the M8 coupe and convertible will not be available in North America in model year 2021. Say goodbye to two-door M8s. The M8 Competition as its own model is also being phased out in favor of an optional Competition package.

Fan of big, fast German sedans (or coupes, if you’re down with four-door vehicles being called coupes) still have the 2021 M8 Gran Coupe starting at $131,995. The powerful beast features a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 that makes 600 horsepower. The Competition package will add an additional 17 horsepower to the setup.

For fans of driving with the wind whipping through their hair or people who just want a large two-door BMW, the less powerful M850i convertible and coupe are still available with a 523-hp twin-turbo V-8, cearly not as speedy or sporty as the outgoing M8 variants.
