Tesla Delivered Record-Breaking 139,300 Vehicles

EV maker beat its previous delivery high of 112,000 from 2019, with the majority sold this quarter being Model 3 and Model Y.

  • Tesla delivered 139,300 vehicles in the third quarter of 2020 breaking a previous record of 112,000 set in 2019.
  • During the same time, the automaker manufactured 145,036 vehicles.
  • The automaker doesn’t break out individual vehicles but sold 15,200 Model S/X and 124,100 Model 3/Y.

Electric-vehicle sales might still be in the single-digit range of overall vehicle sales, but that number continues to grow and a good part of that growth is from Tesla. The automaker announced that it had delivered a record-breaking 139,300 vehicles in the third-quarter ending on September 30. Overall it built 145,036 vehicles during that time.

Tesla noted that its new-vehicle inventory has declined as it improves the efficiency of new vehicle deliveries. The lower an automaker’s inventory, the better. An idle vehicle on some backlot is idle money.

The company delivered 15,200 Model S and Model X and 124,100 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Tesla does not break out the sales numbers into individual vehicles in its report.

Since the beginning of 2020, Tesla has sold 318,000 vehicles. It’s likely that number would have been higher had it not been that its Fremont, California, and Shanghai, China, facilities were temporarily shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Fremont factory was the source of friction between the company and Alameda county with Tesla initiating, then dropping a suit against the county.

The automaker’s previous vehicle delivery record was 112,000 from the third quarter of 2019.
