2021 Acura MDX Will Debut October 14

The redesigned three-row luxury SUV will be shown in prototype form first, but the production version can't be far off.

  • The next-generation Acura MDX will be shown October 14.
  • It will technically be a prototype version of the new three-row crossover, but likely isn't far off from production.
  • The new 2021 MDX will look similar to the recently revealed TLX sedan.

Acura has confirmed that the new 2021 MDX will debut on October 14. The company will initially show the car in prototype form, which in Acura parlance typically means a very thinly disguised production car. A teaser image of the MDX shows similar lines as the TLX sedan, and the two models will likely share powertrains as well.

We've already seen glimpses of the new MDX thanks to spy photos and leaked renderings from Acura's own infotainment system. Its pentagonal grille shape is familiar from elsewhere in the Acura lineup, and the MDX's proportions look sharper and more athletic compared with the current model. Inside, the MDX will retain its three rows of seats for six- or seven-passenger seating.

The fourth-generation MDX is likely to come standard with the same turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four as the TLX, with front-wheel drive standard and Acura's SH-AWD system optional. A Type S performance model should join the lineup later on, possibly using the TLX's turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 354 horsepower.

Stay tuned for more information to come on the 2021 Acura MDX as we near its debut in a few weeks.
