Nissan to Offer NISMO-Branded Off-Road Accessories
Nissan’s performance branch will offer upgraded suspensions, beefy bumpers, LED lighting, and off-road wheels.
- Nissan is offering NISMO-branded off-road accessories for the Frontier, Titan, and long-departed Xterra.
- Upgraded Bilstein dampers, tough front bumpers, Rigid lights, and stronger wheels will be offered by NISMO.
- Pricing will be announced closer to when the parts go on sale this fall.
It doesn't take a paleontologist to tell us the Nissan Frontier is old. Our once taut skin has wrinkled and our hairs have turned gray as we have awaited the debut of the all-new model. Nissan may have fitted the next-generation powertrain into the 2020 Frontier, but its looks are essentially identical to those from the George W. Bush administration. Ahead of this year's Rebelle Rally—an all-female adventure race—Nissan has unveiled NISMO-branded accessories to spice up the truck's look and off-road capability.
Similar to the Performance Level 1 that Ford offers for the Ranger, Nissan breaks up the kit by offering the items individually. The NISMO suspension package includes Bilstein dampers that have been tuned to withstand additional loads from overlanding equipment and heavier off-road tires. The dampers are valved to tackle the rigors of the path less traveled; the rear units feature remote reservoirs to battle heat buildup during extended periods of abuse. With the correct hardware, the suspension package provides a 2.0-inch lift.
Cosmetically, a burly NISMO steel bumper will be offered with provisions to mount a winch, tow hooks, and lights. The latter will also be on the NISMO parts list. Developed by Rigid for Nissan, various LED pods and bars will be available, but at the time of the product launch, 6.0-inch round lamps with an output of 8600 lumens will be the sole offering. Each lighting kit will include the necessary wiring and hardware for installation. NISMO will also offer a good-looking 17-inch gray wheel, which Nissan claims is stronger.
The NISMO parts will be available for the 2005–2020 Frontier and also offered on the forthcoming Frontier, the 2016–2021 Nissan Titan, and the dearly departed 2005–2015 Nissan Xterra. Pricing will be announced closer to when the parts go sale at dealerships this fall or available online.
