Watch the 2021 VW ID.4 Crossover's Unveiling Here

Buyers of the ID.4, VW's first electric vehicle for the U.S. on its new modular platform, will get free charging for three years.

  • Volkswagen will live stream the unveiling of the ID.4 on Wednesday starting at 11 a.m. ET.
  • The electric crossover will come with three years of free charging from Electrify America.
  • The ID.4 will be the first MEB-based electric vehicle in the United States and will go on sale at the end of the year.

After over a year of camouflaged teases, Volkswagen will take the wraps off the 2021 ID.4 electric crossover on Wednesday. The vehicle is part of a larger electrification push by the automaker to have one million electric VWs on the road by 2023. The ID.4 will be the first of those MEB-platform-based vehicles in the United States that puts the automaker on that path.

Starting at 11 a.m. ET, the event will be live-streamed on VW's YouTube channel. While most information about the vehicle is still unknown, Volkswagen and Electrify America did announce that the ID.4 will come with three years of no-cap free charging on the Electrify America network.

Giving out free charging isn't new. Tesla originally offered free charging with Model S and Model X sales. Audi is offering some free charging with the e-tron, and the Lucid Air will also come with three free years, also from Electrify America.

The VW ID.4 will go on sale by the end of 2020.
