2020 Hyundai Accent: What You Need to Know
Yes, the Hyundai Accent is a good subcompact car. Its cabin looks pretty good considering the price point, and it boasts roomy seats and a nice assortment of available features. The Accent delivers a palatable ride if the pavement isn't rough, and it gets good fuel economy with the available automatic transmission.
On the downside, the Accent doesn't handle as well as some rivals, and its engine delivers underwhelming acceleration. Also, the seats could use more support, and some class rivals provide more cargo space.
Should I Buy the Hyundai Accent?
The Accent works great as a commuter car. It doesn't have a lot of drawbacks, provided you don't mind a more mundane driving experience. It features a midpack starting price to match its middle-third class ranking, making it a decent value. But even if you like the Accent, you should see how it stacks up against alternatives like the Toyota Corolla or Hyundai Elantra.
Should I Buy a New or Used Hyundai Accent?
The 2020 Accent is part of a generation that began with the 2018 model year. The only notable changes for 2020 involve the powertrain. The engine now puts out 10 fewer horsepower (120, down from 130) and 6 fewer pound-feet of torque (113, down from 119). Also, the optional transmission is now a CVT instead of a six-speed automatic.
There weren't any notable changes for 2019. As part of the 2018 redesign, Hyundai dropped the five-door hatchback body style and reduced the Accent’s horsepower by 7. Also, a rearview camera became standard, and forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto became available.
You can potentially save thousands of dollars by shopping for a used Accent, but know that you'll miss out on the redesign's updates if you choose a pre-2018 model.
