The lightweight, even more track-focused 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, which is exclusively painted in Phoenix Yellow, recently took the front-wheel-drive lap record at the Suzuka circuit in Japan. Honda has announced that this Type R, limited to 600 units in the U.S., will start at $44,950 when it goes on sale here at the end of this month. The standard 2021 Civic Type R starts at $38,450 and is arriving at dealers now.
Honda shaved off 46 pounds from the Type R Limited Edition by swapping out the standard 20-inch wheels for a set of lighter BBS wheels and removing the rear heating ducts, tonneau cover, wiper blade, and sound-deadening materials. It also retuned the car's steering and dampers and wrapped the BBS wheels in stickier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.
The Civic Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that spins up 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission as the only option. During Car and Driver testing, our long-term test car launched to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and raced to the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds at 107 mph.
The 2021 Civic Type R starts at $38,450 and is arriving at dealerships now. The Limited Edition, which is limited to 600 units in the U.S., will arrive at the end of the month starting at $44,950.
