  • Bentley is adding its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 to the Flying Spur luxury sedan.
  • The twin-turbo V-8 produces 542 horsepower and 569 lb-ft of torque.
  • Orders are open now, and the V-8 Flying Spur will arrive in the U.S. early next year.

Bentley is now offering its twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, which is also available in the Continental GT, in the Flying Spur luxury sedan as a lighter and cheaper alternative to the existing W-12 model. The British automaker says it's adding the more driver-focused powertrain because it's seeing a shift in customers actually driving their Flying Spurs instead of being chauffeured around in them.

The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and produces 542 horsepower and 569 lb-ft of torque. Bentley claims a zero-to-60-mph launch in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 198 mph.

When the Flying Spur is equipped with the V-8, Bentley says, it is 220 pounds lighter than the W-12 car, which weighed in at 5560 pounds in our test. It comes standard with an adaptive air suspension, torque vectoring, selectable driving modes, and electric steering. Bentley's active anti-roll technology is also available as well as all-wheel steering. You'll be able to tell that it's a V-8 model because of the V-8 wing badge, and it also comes standard with 20-inch 10-spoke wheels and quad exhaust tips.

The Bentley Flying Spur V-8 will be built in Crewe, England, and orders are open now. They will arrive in the U.S. early next year starting at $198,725.
